Review the 2022 NSO Parent & Family Program (PDF)

You will receive a printed copy of the 2022 NSO Parent & Family Program in your student's NSO Packet when they check in.

Move-In: Tuesday, September 20

Students can check in to their housing any time between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All students should be checked in by 5:00 p.m. Please take your time helping your student settle into their new room. While we hope to see you at the Residence Welcomes, there is no required programming on this day and you may explore campus on your own. You are also welcome to leave campus with your student to run errands, shop for necessities, or have lunch/dinner, if desired. 

New Student Arrival

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.Housing Service Centers and Residences
Students should check in at their Housing Service Center where they will pick up their Stanford ID (SUID) card and room key and receive their first COVID-19 test. After checking in, students can head to their residence to move in. 

Check In Instructions: Review check-in instructions for Housing Service Center check-in locations and print the 2022 Move-In Packet for maps and the NSO New Student Arrival Parking Pass.

Family members may accompany students into their residence to help them move in. All guests should adhere to Stanford's Visitor Policy. To protect the health and safety of all, students and family members should wear face masks at the Housing Service Centers and in all indoor areas of the residences during Move-In. If you are feeling ill, please do not come to campus. Thank you for your understanding.

Family Welcome Booth & Resources

Stop by for refreshments and pick up a “Stanford Family” pin, the Student’s Guide to Stanford Map, and NSO Scavenger Hunt instructions. Members of the Stanford Parents’ Club will be present to greet families.

  • 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Representatives from various campus offices will be present to share information and answer questions, including staff from Academic Advising, Residential & Dining Enterprises, and Stanford Transportation.

Shop for Stanford mementos and meet fellow Stanford families at the Parent’s Club Booth. Net proceeds benefit undergraduate scholarships.

Green Library Tours

10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Green Library East Entrance (near Red Hoop Fountain)
Join us for a tour of Green Library, the Humanities and Social Sciences Library.

Campus Tours

10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. Stanford Visitor Center, 295 Galvez St.
Learn your way around campus with a student tour guide. Tours begin across from the Stanford Visitor Center, on the lawn between the Arrillaga Alumni Center and the Bing Concert Hall. Each tour has a limit of 25 people and advanced registration is required. "No Es Un Adiós" Parent Panel

El Centro Chicano y Latino is excited to meet students and families and to answer any questions or concerns you may have. This panel of parents and alumni will help ease the transition to college for both students and parents.

Welcome Home

4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.Residences
Meet your student’s Resident Fellow(s), residence staff, and dormmates, and connect with other families at this residence welcome.


NSO: Wednesday, September 21

We invite you to learn about our campus community at various welcome events, open houses, and formal programs. Plan to say your goodbyes and depart campus by 5:00 p.m. so that your student can have dinner with their dorm and attend their first important House Meeting, which is required.

132nd Opening Convocation Ceremony

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. • Frost Amphitheater
President Marc Tessier-Lavigne welcomes new students and families to Stanford during this formal inauguration of the academic year. Dress casually and bring a hat, as it may get hot. If you would like to sit with your student, please meet them at Frost. This will be a large outdoor event; face masks are encouraged. Convocation will be livestreamed and recorded.

Open Houses

Hume Center Open House

12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. • Building 250, Main Quad
The Hume Center offers free resources for students including writing and oral communication tutors.

Vaden Health Center Meet & Greet

12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. • Vaden Health Center, 886 Campus Drive
Vaden Health Center offers services to support student health including: medical, pharmacy, counseling and psychological, well-being, and more. Information about the University-sponsored health insurance plan, Cardinal Care, will also be available.

Financial Aid Office Drop-In Hours

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. • Montag Hall
Financial Aid staff will be available to welcome new students and families. Regular office hours are 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Stanford Learning Lab Open House

At the Stanford Learning Lab, students can work with senior learning specialists to better understand their unique learning profile.

Lathrop Learning Hub Open House

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. • Lathrop Library
Stop by the Lathrop Learning Hub for a short tour and information about our technology support services, including technology checkout, tech support, computers, and study spaces.

Office of Accessible Education Open House

The Office of Accessible Education provides academic and housing accommodations as well as support services to students with disabilities.

Mental Health & Well-Being Meet & Greet

Campus Parking for Move-In Day & NSO

Free parking is available in the residential parking lots and garages for NSO. Print and display the NSO Arrival Day Parking Pass in your car on September 20 and 21. On September 21, families may also park in the Galvez Parking Lot, across the street from Frost Amphitheater, where Convocation will be held.

All parking regulations will continue to be enforced. You must not park in front of fire hydrants, FDC pipes, or barricades, cones, caution tape, or other signage indicating that parking is not allowed. Citations may be issued to parked cars blocking these emergency access areas.

Please be sure to lock your vehicle. Do not leave any valuables and remove all bags/suitcases from view in your car.
